A Song Writing competition takes place during the Open Mic event.  There is a small entry fee to take part in this event, and the winner is presented with the Iain Maclennan trophy, and a cheque for £50.

We had ten excellent submissions,

with the judges faced with a really

difficult choice, with the winner of the

2016 Song Writing competition being

Lorna Jane Gracie, with "Emily's Song".

A Recycled Instrument competition

also takes place during the Open Mic event.

It is free to take part in this event.

The idea is to produce a playable musical

instrument from any old rubbish, the

nature of the instrument being entirely at the

maker's whim.

There were three entrants for this, and the

judges were unable to make a choice, so

decided to make all three

equal first. Winne(s)r of the 2016

Recycled Instrument competition

were Bruce Hogg, Peter Estibiero

and Neil Hamilton.

If you're not sure what a recycled

instrument looks like, have a

look at our picture gallery for some

ideas and inspiration.
